1. Eating and Drinking
Anything a person consumes That goes into his stomach would invalidate his fasting. If he does this Remembering And knowing the ruling of it or he or she intentionally eats something, it will not only break the fast but also it would be considerd a major sin they should immediately repent to Allah swt and should makeup it latter.
But if they unintentionally or forgetfully eats or drinks something it won't affect their fasting it's valid.
The Messenger of Allah pbuh said:
If somebody eats or drinks forgetfully then he should complete his fast, for what he has eaten or drunk, has been given to him by Allah. [ Sahih al-Bukhari : 1933]
2. Sexual intercourse
The most sinful and serious act which invalidate the fast is sexual intercourse with spouse while fasting this is totally prohibited on the day time of ramadan.
It's one of the major sin and most serious things amongst all the things that break the fast
If a person does this sin he should immediately repent to Allah swt and Ask for forgiveness and he should complete his fast for that day and make up for that fast later on after ramadan And he has to pay a penalty.
According to the hadith the penalty would be
That either he should free a slave
If he can't find slave to free he should fast for sixty days continuously if he cant do this he should feed Sixty poor people these are the things which he have to fulfil if he commit this sin while fasting.
Narrated Abu Huraira: While we were sitting with the Prophet a man came and said, O Messenger of Allah I have been ruined. Allah's Messenger pbuh asked what was the matter with him. He replied I had sexual intercourse with my wife while I was fasting. Allah's Messenger asked him, Can you afford to manumit a slave? He replied in the negative. Allah's Messenger asked him, Can you fast for two successive months? He replied in the negative. Again The Prophet asked him, Can you afford to feed sixty poor persons? He replied in the negative. The Prophet kept silent and while we were in that state, a big basket full of dates was brought to the Prophet . He asked, Where is the questioner? He replied, I (am here). The Prophet said (to him), Take this (basket of dates) and give it in charity. The man said, Should I give it to a person poorer than I? By Allah, there is no family between its (i.e. Medina's) two mountains who are poorer than I. The Prophet smiled till his premolar teeth became visible and then said, Feed your family with it. [Sahih al-Bukhari : 1936]
3. Masturbation
Intentionally or purposely ejaculation,
When someone intentionally or purposely ejaculate whether by masturbating or by watching something that provoke him to ejaculate intentionally, in this case it nullifies his fasting And it is a sinful act.
Here let me clearify you that Nocturnal emission or wet dreams these are not in your control it happens without your intentions without your wish when u sleep you dont know when it happens so it doesn't impact on your fasting.
But here you don't have to pay the penalty like sexual intercourse with your wife while fasting. May Allah protect us.
Allah SWT said in the glorious Qur'an:
Translation: And those who guard their private parts. Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - But whoever seeks beyond that, then They are the transgressors. [ Al Quran_ 70 : 29-31]
Explanation: Guard their private parts Abstain from illicit sexual gratification and from exposing their satar before others. For males, the satar is the part of the body from the navel to the knee, and it is not permissible to expose that part of the body intentionally before anybody except one's own wife.
The Prophet has warned us Beware, never remain naked, for with you are those ( the angels of goodness and mercy), who never leave you alone except when you ease yourself or you go to your wives. So feel shy of them and give them respect.
4. Menstruation or post natal bleeding
If a women has a menstruation cycle or post natal bleeding in the month of Ramadan she can not continue her fast. Even if she has between of the day She has to break the fast or even if menstruation starts before few minutes of sunset she has to break the fast Her fast is void.
As the Messenger of Allah pbuh said:
Isn't it true that a woman does not pray and does not fast on menstruating? And that is the defect (a loss) in her religion. [ Sahih al-Bukhari : 1951]
Explanation: This is the rule of the shariah When a women menstruating she should makeup her fast later after ramadan but not make up the prayer.
It has been forbidden to fast for a women who is undergoing the menstrual cycle or post natal bleeding Because when she is in this situation she looses a lot of bloods And when she fast in this condition it may be harmful for her health that's why Allah swt forbidden women for fasting in her menese. It's the mercy of Allah swt that he has forbidden to fast a women while in menstruation or post natal bleeding. Because He doesn't want any human being to over burden.
That's the reason they are forbidden from the fast Even before few minutes from the sunset they have to break the fast and make up it later on after Ramadan.
5. Kidney Dialysis
Something similar to kidney dialysis where the blood is taken out and it's purified And some nutrients are added into it and and put it back. It invalidate the fasting.
6. Taking medicine or injection
Taking medicine or injection which are in the form of nourishment or something similar to eating and drinking Including blood transfusion.
Or something That nourishing the body such as glucose or something after taking that they can live for fer few days. It break the fast.
7. Deliberate Vomiting
Intentionally vomiting, If someone who eat so much and he feel uneasy and he intentionally force himself to vomit his fast is invalid.
But if someone without his intention vomit then his fast is valid.
Narrated Madan bin Talhah: That Abu ad-Darda narrated to him: The Messenger of Allah pbuh vomited and broke his fast. Then I met Thawban, the client of the Messenger of Allah pbuh in the mosque in Damascus, I said (to him) Abu al-Darda has told me that the Messenger of Allah pbuh vomited and broke his fast. He said: He spoke the truth, and I poured out water for his ablution. [Abu Dawood : 2381]
8. Cupping or Hijama
letting our blood something similar to cupping or something like that
This is the prophetic way for healing and it helps in migran and high blood pressure and others disease.
But while fasting it's a matter of dispute amongst the scholars. some scholar says it's permissible and some says it's break the fast.
1st Hadith
the Messenger of Allah said:
A man who cups and a man who gets himself cupped break their fast. [Sunan Abu Dawood 2370]
2nd Hadith
Narrated Ibn Abbas: The Messenger of Allah pbuh had himself cupped when he was fasting. [Abdu Dawood : 2372]
Both hadith are graded Sahih
According to the hadith
In the first hadith there is commandment and in the second hadith there is an action. According to the majority of scholars when commandment and action attaches together commandment has more value but still there is two group one group says ite permissible and the another group says it's haram while fasting and some says makrooh.
So it's better to be avoid it while fasting and has to be done after Sunset. Allah knows best
9. Blood Donation
Donating blood is similar to cupping and it's also a matter of dispute. scholars have different opinions some scholar says it's permissible and some says it breaks the fast
But most of the Scholar agree that cupping and donating blood should be avoided While fasting and should be done after sunset.
But As far as as other things Are concerned
Like Due to any injury or any small cut there is a small bleeding it doesn't break or void the fast.
Or taking few ml of blood sample for testing
It also doesn't effect on the fasting It won't break the fast.
But if excessive blood flows out whether in the injury or any surgery then it's break the fast because it may affect the body and the person may get weak in this condition he should break the fast.
10. Using eye, ear and nose drops
In this case, As scholars said eyes and ears not connected with the throat so when someone takes drops in the ear and eyes it doesn't go in the stomach that's why using eye and ear drop is fine it won't break the fast.
But in the case of nose majority of the Scholar say that the nose is linked to the throat due to this when someone take drop in nose it goes to the throat and from throat it goes to stomach, because of this taking drops in nose is prohibited while fasting beacuse there is high chances that drop goes into stomach which invalidate the fast.
Allah knows best.
